Masquerade At The Moulin Rouge

Hurray for date night!

Last night, Julie and I went to Chico to see the show “Masquerade at the Moulin Rouge” at the Chico Cabaret. We met Julie’s cousin Ashley and her boyfriend Michael at Panama’s for drinks, then all four of us went over to the Cabaret.

We have been looking forward to this show for a while since it looked like a fun production, and it was highly recommended by a few people. The lights dimmed, and we was not disappointed. What a blast! Flashy, sexy costumes, crazy-fun song and dance numbers, and it was all accompanied by a house band (many of the productions are). Did I mention the sexy costumes?? You can tell the actors were having a ball and put everything they had into the show.

Ash and Michael had never been to the Chico Cabaret, and had a great time. Pretty much everyone we have taken with us have told us they have fallen in love with the shows. Ash said she absolutely wants to come back for the next shows with us. Great stuff!!

Today was a bit rough…I stayed up way to late, and drank just a bit too much, but it was worth it!

Date Night…Angry Housewives (Grrrrrrrr!)

It’s time for another date night since our favorite community theater Chico Cabaret is putting on a new show. This time it was the play Angry Housewives.

Bored with their everyday lives, four women try a number of outlets until one of them strikes a chord on her guitar, and suggests they form a punk rock group and enter the upcoming talent show at the local punk club

Julie and I went out to Chili’s for dinner, and for the 2nd or 3rd time in a row, it was a disappointing meal. I keep going back thinking the last bad dinner was a fluke, and Chili’s just keeps proving it’s just bad. Normally we would go out for drinks before the show, but I’m the crime scene investigator on call this week, and cannot drink in case the city goes to hell.

I had offered to take a co-worker and his wife with us (the DiGiordanos) and we met them there. There is a 50/50 raffle during the intermission of all the cabaret shows, and between the Nelsons and the DiGiordanos, we seem to win a lot of them. Tonight was no different, with Mike and his wife winning the $40+ pot (and continuing our tradition of donating it back to the theater company). It was a long day (I worked a mandatory overtime shift the night prior and didn’t get to sleep until almost 6am, but it was worth it to see the cones on the band’s drummer (traffic cones…get your mind out of the gutter! Jessica Smith is one of our favorite cast members).

If you haven’t been to a play at the Cabaret, it’s always a great time. We have been season ticket holders for a couple of years, and love going to the productions! Click HERE to see what’s coming up!

Thank you to the Chico Cabaret for the entertainment, the DiGiordanos for the conservation, and Chili’s for a great meal…well, 2 out of 3 aint bad!

Date Night…Eating Raoul

Tonight was date night, and Julie and I went to our favorite community theater, the Chico Cabaret!

The night began with my Mom coming over to dog sit for us We wasn’t sure about leaving our new boxer Rugie home alone. Better safe than sorry.

We went to dinner at Chili’s, which was okay. Not great, not bad…just okay. Attentive service seems to be a thing of the past anymore.

From there, we stopped off at The Panama Bar & Grill, where you can get long island iced teas for $3.50 in 30 different flavors. I had one, which is the usual routine for ‘date night’ (dinner, drinks, show, home).

Last stop was the Cabaret for “Eating Rauol”

The cult film classic has new life as a zany musical. This offbeat, quirky, campy and delicious new musical is fast-paced and very funny. It’s a merry, murderous, and romantic musical romp much like Little Shop of Horrors, combined with a touch of Sweeny Todd. (Mature Audiences)

I wasn’t sure how good it was gonna be, but we was suprised! We had a really good time!! They players away put on a really good show. Julie and I won the 50/50 raffle again ($26) and showed our appreciation to the theater by donating it back. That’s the 5th time in 2 years we have won!!

Tomorrow is the 4th of July…time to celebrate like true Americans. BBQ, Fireworks, and Beer Pong!!

Date Night!

Julie and I try to go out on a “date night” at least once a month.

We have been going to productions at the Chico Cabaret (http://www.chicocabaret.com/) for a few years and are regular season ticket holders and donate to help keep them in business.

Every month, then the Cabaret holds a new showing, we go out to dinner and watch the play for date night. We always try to pick a new restaurant that we have never eaten at to keep thing interesting. It’s a dice roll if it’s gonna be good sometimes.

Last night, we picked The Sierra Nevada Restaurant (http://www.sierranevada.com/). The place is always packed, so it’s gotta be good, right? Not so much. The place WAS packed to the gills, and the dull roar of the place was nearly uncomfortable.

Julie ordered a shrimp/prawn dish, and I ordered the braised lamb. We ordered onion rings as an appitizer, which arrived about 2 minutes before our plates. Julie enjoyed her dish, but my lamb was a soupy, mushy mess. Where is Chef Ramsey when you need him??

After dinner, we hit up Shuberts (http://www.shuberts.com/) for an ice creme cone dessert, then went to the Cabaret for their production of “Wild Party”.

It’s wasn’t what we was expecting…turns out it’s a very dark, very somber play. Not the light-hearted musical we thought it was.

Still…it got us out of the house for the night. That’s a good thing
