Scavenger Hunt 11-14-09 (the creepy one)

Another scavenger hunt hit for me…

You and your bike by a playground with a sign that reads, “Michael Jackson is gone, but I’m here”

My wife called this one ‘creepy’…so I HAD to do it!

I rode over to a playground 5 blocks from my house. School is out, so no kids going to school (the park is next to the high school), and only 1 person in a car to watch me ride right up to the jungle gym.

I parked on that recycled tire spongy stuff, set the timer and got the pic of me with the sign reading

“Michael Jackson is gone, but I’m here”

I added “Free Candy” to the end to up the creep factor lol

Scavenger Hunt 07-18-09 (ride a quad!)

Over at www.volusiariders.com, a group of us play a silly scavenger hunt game with our motorcycles.

It’s always You, Your Motorcycle, and…”. The goal is to be the first to post a picture meeting the requirements.

This time, the target was:

You, your bike outside of a motorcycle dealership (sign must be visible), sitting on a 4 wheeler with your helmet on and “leaning” in for a curve. (like a on a sportbike, knee out head up.)

Time: 3:15PM
Temperature: 109 DEGREES

I rode over to the Suzuki dealer in my town (who I cannot stand…long story) to get this photo.

I wandered around like I was checking out the quads, and when the coast was clear, I jumped on the nearest quad for the hit (which happened to be the smallest quad in line…it felt like a toy under me. I was worried if I leaned any further, it would tip!).

Scavenger Hunt 07-12-09 (Take a nap!)

Over at www.volusiariders.com, I got yet another win in the scavenger hunt contest I run.

The target this time was:

You, your bike outside of a mattress store (sign must be visible)
While cuddling your favorite pillow.

I rode my bike to work today so I could get this target…I knew right where I wanted to go. I almost brought my half of a watermelon that I bought for the last target that didn’t get used, but it was easier to leave it home.

I packed my pillow and a blanket, and rode to one of the oldest mattress stores in Chico. I set up a comfy bed, set the timer on the camera, and relaxed for the photo. I almost didn’t want to get back up to go to work.

Scavenger Hunt, 07-05-09 (It’s a 2-fer day!)

I got two scavenger hunt photos from www.volusiariders.com today!

The first target was:

You, your bike in front of a liquor store, holding a sign that reads “Will Work For Beer!”

This was an easy one…I wrote the sign, and drove the 4 blocks to the store:

The second was:

The target is You , Your Bike, Roadkill. You must be on your knees, in a pose that would suggest you are begging for forgivness. make it look real.

I’m on fire with this game!!

Scavenger Hunt, Ride Bell Contest Result!

Over at www.volusiariders.com, I have a contest to win one of the RIDE BELLS I sell.

The You Are The Po-Po Contest went really well with 16 entries (18 if you count the two photos I took).

I usually draw the name out of a hat, but this time I did it different:

YOU are the Po-Po!

It’s my turn to come up with something for the scavenger hunt over at www.volusiariders.com.

This is what I came up with:

Announcing the “YOU are the Po-Po” contest for a chance to enter a drawing for one of my ride bells.
Here is what you do:
Print the following picture of a badge:

Feel free to decorate it any way you wish…cover it with foil, bedazzle it, write “VR Patrol” on it, whatever. It’s your badge have fun and pimp it out (or be boring and leave it plain white).

Now, find a law enforcement vehicle, and take a picture with you, your bike and the vehicle, with you wearing the badge on your chest.

For every different agency you take a photo with, you get another entry into the drawing, so BOLO (be on the lookout) for police, sheriff, park rangers, highway patrol, border patrol, DOJ, State Police, etc, etc, etc. (no, mall security doesn’t count). If you take 10 photos with 10 different agencies, that’s 10 times you name goes into the hat for the drawing! There is no limit to the number of times you an enter.

The drawing will be by Julie on Saturday July 4th at Noon PST.

I was actually the first one to hit the target!!

First blood, suckas!!

Orland Police Department…not even my own agency.

Ed = 1
Everyone else = 0

Gawd, I’m a Stud!

Well…my motorcycle is well studded, anyways.

I have purchased studded seats, a studded tank bib, and at one point, had studded leather saddlebags (prior to installing the Mutazu hard bags) on my 2003 Suzuki Volusia

Today, I added a few more studs to the ride in the form of studded trim around the floorboards.

The complete package:

I got the trim from Chilhowee Leather (my favorite leather shop in one of my favorite towns of Grants Pass, Oregon).

Installing the trim consisted of taking off the floorboards, cleaning them, applying rubber cement to the edge and to the back of the trim, then carefully putting the trim in place.

Julie says I’m at the maximum studness with the motorcycle right now, but there are several places I can add studs (maybe when she isn’t looking!), like handlebar wraps, light bar wrap, crash bar wraps…

What do ya think? Too many studs, not enough, or am I just right with my studly-ness??

Ride for Pete and Lillie, 5-23-09

On April 22nd, two members of a website I frequent (Pete and Lillie of www.volusiariders.com) had a motorcycle accident and suffered some pretty terrible injuries.

As a get-well gesture, members of the website put together two backpacks, both filled with trinkets and a t-shirt for members to sign. The goal is to have one pack east of the Mississippi, and one west. Both circle the east or west parts of te United States being handed off rider to rider. Eventually, the packs would end up in the hands of Pete and Lily.

The West pack started up in western Canada, and made it down into Washington, into Oregon, and yesterday, a VR.com member brought it to Redding, California.

Myself and another VR.com from Gridley rode up to Redding to pick up the pack.

Here is what I wrote on the website (yes, we have goofy ride names…OTG is Walter from Washington, JohnneG is John from Gridley, and I am the famous Special Ed):

OTG called me this morning from the road, and said he was on schedule to make it to Redding California by late afternoon.

I had made arrangements for JohnneG to meet me at my place, and we would ride up and meet OTG for the transfer. I hadn’t met JohnneG in person, and he arrived just in time to catch me finishing up (attempting) to add a flag mount to my license plate that I had fabbed up…the trouble was I measured once and cut twice. It didn’t fit. I had to leave it off. So much for 1st impressions.

We left Orland, Ca just after 4pm, and made it to Redding right at 5:30pm.

I had checked the direction on-line, and knew right where OTG’s hotel was and how to get there. We got to Redding and into town. We drove down the road…and I didn’t see it. We u-turned and drove back. I still didn’t see it, so I sucked up my pride and asked directions at a Mexican restaurant. The said the hotel was two buildings down (the one with the big sign that said “RED LION HOTEL”…so much for 2nd impressions.

We pulled up and parked, and I called OTG, who was actually across the street having dinner with family who drove up from Sacramento to see him. So we fired up our bikes again, and rode over to Chevys.

JohnneG and I cooled our heels inside at the bar (ice water for me, ice tea for him), and when OTG finished dinner, we went back over to the hotel.

We gabbed for a bit, then headed home.

The pack is with me, and I’ll run it down to Sacramento next Sunday to pass it off to a member there, so it can continue down to southern California.

Here is a pic of OTG handing off the pack to me:

It was a good day for a ride…sunny, warm, and for a good cause. Win-win-win.

Friday is CHROME day, baby!

I’m quickly running out of chrome parts to buy for my bike (2003 Suzuki Volusia VL800).

Today, I added three large round nut covers on the triple tree near the handlebars, and two big lower frame covers near the rear tire.

All are heavy chromed metal…not the “plasti-chrome” or chrome-colored ABS plastic that is everywhere these days.

Scavenger Hunt, 05-22-09

Motorcycle scavenger hunts rock, especially when I have a day off :)

It’s time for another Scavenger hunt target from www.volusiariders.com:

I woke up this morning, and saw this as the target:

You, Your bike in front of a laudromat, basket of clothes, quarters in hand.

Sooo…This laundromat is just a few blocks from my house, so I grabbed a basket that is easily carried, grabbed some clothes from the pile, a few quarters to wash (no need to worry about drying the clothes, they will air dry on the way home Smile ) and zipped over to the store.
